Palo Alto Sewer Repair: Efficient Techniques & Modern Solutions

As the birthplace of Silicon Valley, Palo Alto City owns and operates its own utility, sewer, and storm drainage services. The Palo Alto Utility Department has received many awards and honors for its unique operating and safety systems. The beauty of our Santa Clara County area has always been considered a great tourism and future technological attraction. Our neighboring communities, including East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Los Altos Hill, are a part of this 100-year-old city. Palo Alto is named after its tall, majestic coastal redwood trees.

Our full-service sewer line repair methods provide both a trench system for repairs and an open-cut method or trenchless sewer repair. Through both of these operations, we are able to efficiently reach damaged or clogged underground pipes. Unfortunately, there will come a time when problems develop within any sewer line system. The purpose of a sewer line repair method is to gain access to the area surrounding the damaged portion of the pipeline. A sewer or septic system is basically simple in its operation, consisting of a septic tank and a drainage area.

The septic tanks are generally constructed of concrete or fiberglass. It has an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe. Wastewater enters the piping system from homes or businesses through a sewer pipe. The tank holds the solids and liquids that enter it and where it is treated and solids are broken down. Sewer repair in Palo Alto is our specialty. We are a full-service sewer repair service. To keep our city’s sewer system operating at maximum functioning, there are certain precautions that should be taken by all residents.

Things to Avoid Flushing and Pouring Down the Drain

Do not flush certain materials down the toilet system, such as:

  • hair
  • diapers
  • cigarettes
  • napkins
  • grease
  • paper towels

These objects do not naturally break down, even using the biodegradable chemicals within a sewer tank system, thus causing clogs and back-ups. Not only avoid flushing unordinary items, but many of our service calls are due to the gorgeous older homes within the Palo Alto communities.

Trenchless Plumbing Repair

Palo Alto’s older homes often contain piping systems that are made from terra cotta or clay. Over time, these pipes corrode and break down. Also, tree roots and plant roots can interfere with the operation of sewer line pipes. The traditional method for sewer repair in Palo Alto involves using a backhoe to uncover the sewer line and fix it. Newer methods involve the trenchless sewer repair system. This involves making small holes near the beginning and end of the damaged pipes.

We then pull a new pipe through the old pipe. This action will break up the old pipe, while we simultaneously lay the new sewer pipe. This eliminates the need to dig up large ground surfaces.

Depending on the sewer pipeline damage, there is also a pipe relining method that works by placing a fiberglass line inside the damaged pipe to seal it off. This method allows only one entry point which can be run through and to the city’s connection.
